Introduction to QuickTime VR

Quicktime VR is immersive digital imaging technology that takes the user to the middle of a place or around an object of interest. It allows the user to pan around a room or other space, pan up and down, zoom in and out, and with the use of clickable hot spots, allows the user to jump to other VR images, open a URL or text file, a sound etc. When viewing an object movie, the user can navigate behind or above an object. The images are small enough to be viewed on websites or read from CDROM.

While there are other VR technologies that compete with Apple's product, QTVR is incredibly flexible when coupled with the great depth and richness of Apple's Quicktime multimedia environment. QTVR can also incorporate directional sound, Quicktime movies, effects like fire or rippling waves and more. The result is a stunning experience that makes users sit up straight in their chairs and ask out loud, "Wow, how'd you do that?" It is being used in real estate, architecture, online merchandise catalogs, medicine and many other areas to take the user into a virtual space created of digital images.
