Navigating inside a QuickTime VR image:

Make sure you have the QuickTime plugin copied to the Plugins folder of your browser. If you don't have it, go to the QuickTime site and get it. Quicktime is a cross-platform multimedia application and as such is available for Windows and Macintosh.

  • Wait for the Quicktime VR file to download (the Quicktime logo will be replaced by the opening scene of the image). Some QTVR's provide a streaming preview that yields a low res preview of the complete image while the image loads.
  • Place your cursor within the QTVR window and click once to activate it. Now click and hold as you drag the cursor to the left and right, and up and down. The more you move to the left or right, the faster you spin. You can even take the cursor out of the frame. But you must always begin each move with the cursor within the frame. You can also use your keyboard arrow keys instead of your mouse
  • Depending on platform and browser, use the shift key, the control key, the option key or the alt key to zoom in and out.
  • In a MultiNode QTVR there is a hot spot in the frame that you must find and click on in order to move to the next node. Use the button in the control bar if available to highlight hot spots. You will know that you have found the hot spot when your cursor changes shape. When it does, click the mouse button and you will be transported to the next position or node, in the sequence. Turn around, and you can backtrack.
